In 2021 the Chinese Central Bank will launch the world´s first national digital currency. This strategic move has the potential to dramatically change global capital flow for international corporates and eventually disrupt vital parts of the global financial sector.
Despite the fact that paper money was invented in China, the country is set to be the first cashless society in the world. With Alipay, WeChat pay and soon also Tik Tok launching its own payment service Douyin Pay, China is already far ahead when it comes to digital payments.
Next step is the launch of the DCEP (Digital Currency Electronic Payment) which will increase control over capital flows, help combat corruption and give the central bank new tools to stimulate economy.
The new currency is based on block chain technology and will be a global gamechanger that can challenge the dominance of the USD and SWIFT system as it allows free international money transfers and no bank is needed to store it.
